Raphinha scores twice
Raphinha scored twice for Brazil in a comfortable victory over Uruguay. The match ended 4-1 in Brazil’s favor.
Neymar opened the scoring for Brazil at the 5th-minute mark. The PSG winger controlled the ball with his chest near the 6-yard box, swiveled, beat the goalkeeper with his touch, and scored the opening goal. The 29-year-old has 70 goals to his name for the Brazil national team, seven behind the great Pele.
In the 18th minute, Raphinha of Leeds United doubled Brazil’s lead, tapping in from a close range. The ball fell to the winger after Neymar’s shot was deflected off a defender and parried by the goalkeeper.
Brazil created many half-chances in the first half but could not capitalize on anything. Uruguay could not create any substantial chances of their own in the first half.
In the 58th minute, Neymar was once again in the thick of the things as he released Raphinha in behind Uruguay’s defense. The Leeds winger did not make any mistake in putting the ball into the net.
Luis Suarez scored a consolation goal in the 77th minute for Uruguay with a stunning free-kick.
However, Brazil was just too much for this Uruguay side as they scored their fourth of the night 6 minutes later.
Neymar lobbed the ball superbly from just outside the penalty area onto the head of the substitute Gabriel Barbosa.
The former Inter Milan striker’s header went into the net despite Muslera’s effort to keep it out.
Brazil remain unbeaten
With this victory, Brazil remains unbeaten in the South American World Cup qualifiers. Neymar was involved in all of Brazil’s goals. He notched a goal and two assists in the match.
Uruguay dangling in 5th
Uruguay has not won a single match in the October international break. They drew against Colombia before losing 3-0 against Argentina. Now they have lost against Brazil. They currently sit on the playoff spot in the South American standings, three points above Chile and level on points with Colombia.
