Liverpool takes on Atletico Madrid
Liverpool will travel to Spain and play Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano in their third UEFA Champions League group stage match. The last time Liverpool played Atletico Madrid was in the round of 16 tie in the 2019-20 season. Diego Simeone’s men were resilient in that tie and progressed to the Quarter-Finals after winning 4-2 on aggregate. Atletico Madrid won their home leg against the then defending champions 1-0 before going on to win at Anfield 3-2, with Morata putting the tie beyond Jurgen Klopp’s men at that time.
Liverpool will look to avenge that exit this time around.
Klopp’s men are in a scintillating form coming to this match. They thrashed Watford 5-0 away from home, with the front three firing on all cylinders. Atletico Madrid’s defense will be much more resolute than the Watford one. However, they will look to translate their domestic form to Europe.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid will come into the game fresh as the La Liga champions did not play in the league this past weekend.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone feels he will have a full squad in contention for the match against Liverpool. Gimenez, Llorente, and Matheus Cunha were sidelined with injuries but could return to the squad for the game.
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp will be without the services of Thiago Alcantara and Curtis Jones through injury.
Club Brugge vs Manchester City
Pep Guardiola’s men will travel to Belgium with the hopes of taking all three points. City suffered a disappointing loss against PSG despite being the better team on the field in their last game/
Similar to Liverpool, City will look to translate their domestic form to Europe.
Gabriel Jesus and Ederson could return to the setup after missing the weekend game against Burnley after returning late from the international duty with Brazil.
To avoid the 10-day quarantine at a hotel in England ( mandatory for people traveling back to England from Brazil), Jesus and Ederson were sent directly to Belgium to continue training and both could be in contention for the match against Brugge.
