Australian Off Spinner Nathan Lyon issued a statement in which he praised Steve Smith’s willingness to represent the team as Captain.
“Its Exciting that Smithy has said he wants the job again. I think over the last couple of years he’s learned a lot about himself, but also about his captaincy as well. For him to come out and say that he wants it is exciting. If he Wants it I think he can have it” Lyon quoted saying this in a conversation with Unplayable Podcast reported by Australian Cricket Board.
Earlier Smith openly talked about him leading the team, However Coach Justin Langer issued a statement which stated that the team isn’t in any mood to sack Tim Paine as Test Captain & Aaron Finch from his ODI Captaincy.
Steve Smith was removed from Captaincy following his Involvement in Sandpaper Gate Incident in Cape Town against South Africa in 2018. He was blacklisted from playing cricket along with David Warner but made a comeback afterwards.
Steve is Currently preparing to play for his new team Delhi Capitals in the upcoming Edition of IPL 2021.
