Since the beginning of one-day internationals, we have witnessed a significant increase in the number of matches that have ended with a high score. This is primarily attributable to the fact that the batting abilities of the players have vastly increased throughout the game. Batsmen-friendly laws and smaller boundaries have skewed the game more towards batsmen, which is why the greatest team total in one-day internationals has frequently surpassed the 400 marks.
In the long and illustrious history of One-Day International matches, there have been numerous occasions on which a team has scored more than 400 runs. The highest innings total for a second side in an ODI is 438 runs, which was scored by South Africa against Australia in Johannesburg on March 12, 2006.

South Africa, 438–9 (49.5 overs)
There were several reasons why this game went down in ODI cricket history books. In the history of One-Day Internationals, this was the first occasion on which a team scored more than 400 runs. It was the Johannesburg match on March 12, 2006, between South Africa and Australia. After winning the toss, Australia decided to bat first. All four of their best hitters had things going for them early on. Ricky Ponting, the team’s captain, kept his cool and scored 164 runs off 105 deliveries. In their 50 overs, Australia scored 434 runs for four.
South Africa was not given a chance to win this game. On the other hand, the second inning held a very remarkable surprise for them. After spotting the mark, they made a beeline toward the company. South Africa persevered after losing their first wicket in the second over, and their second wicket stand ended with a score of 187. South Africa accomplished the unthinkable by achieving a successful run chase in the final over of the match thanks to some crucial contributions from the middle order. With 438 runs in 49 and a half overs, they made history.
Sri Lanka 411–8 (50 overs)
In their attempt to reach the objective, the Sri Lankan side only managed to score 411 runs while losing 8 wickets, and the Indian team came out on top, winning the match by a margin of three runs. The Indian team’s score of 414 for seven wickets against the Sri Lankan squad on December 15, 2009, is their second highest of all time.
The Indian team was able to score 414 runs despite losing seven wickets throughout this match. Virendra Sehwag batted 146 runs throughout this match, hitting 17 fours, six sixes, and 102 balls in total. His total score was 146.
South Africa 372–6 (49.2 overs)
There have been two record-setting run chases in one-day international cricket, both of which South Africa accomplished. In a match against Australia on October 5, 2016, Durban had the second-greatest chase. Australia took the field first after winning the toss. They got off to a terrific start, posting scores of 110 and 224 for the first two wickets, respectively. Most runs were scored by David Warner (117), Aaron Finch (53), and Steve Smith (108) The outcome was a massive score of 371 for 6 off 50 overs for the Men in Yellow.
For the Proteas, it appeared as if they were chasing a ghost. However, what followed was truly remarkable. South Africa had a few solid middle-order partnerships as they chased the objective. At 265/6 after 37.4 overs, they were still having a tough time. After that, though, an undefeated partnership of 107 runs off 70 balls established the second-best run chase in ODI cricket. With 79 balls remaining, Miller was not out on 118* and Andile Phehlukwayo was also not out on 42*. They won after scoring 372 runs for six in 49.2 overs.
