Kapil Dev: Biography, Age, Height, Achievements, Family and Career Statistics

6 Min Read

The name Kapil Dev is closely associated with Indian cricket. India took a giant stride toward becoming a cricketing juggernaut under Kapil’s leadership when they defeated the formidable West Indies in the 1983 World Cup final. There is no denying Kapil’s enormous influence on Indian cricket. He was the very first Indian fast bowler to earn the respect of batsmen everywhere. India has previously produced a number of military medium pacers, but since his advent, the country’s fast bowling scene has entirely changed. Here was a fast bowler who could throw down “body blows” when necessary and swing both ways.

He surpassed Hadlee’s record of 431 wickets to become the world’s leading wicket-taker in 1994 during a home Test match against Sri Lanka. When Anil Kumble surpassed it, his Test innings total of 9/83 was the best by an Indian bowler. He was named the Indian Cricketer of the Century in 2002, and after retirement, he took on the role of the team coach. When he was among the cricketers Manoj Prabhakar implicated in the match-fixing incident, his reign at the top came to an end in tears. He became an executive member of the Indian Cricket League in 2007, a separate organization that is not recognized by the BCCI. But as a result, he was fired from the NCA.
