Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka (730/6d)
Sri Lanka monopolised the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Mirpur, bowling their guests out for 232 and then attempting to close the day on 60 without setback. Bangladesh began with a disastrous start credit goes to four wickets from Shaminda Eranga before half-centuries from Mushfiqur Rahim (61) and Shakib Al Hasan (55). The only other players to attain twofold figures were debutant opening batsman Shamsur Rahman and Sohag Gazi, who swept 33 and 42 runs respectively. Suranga Lakmal managed to take three wickets, Rangana Herath two, and Angelo Mathews one before opening batsman Kaushal Silva (30 not out) and Dimuth Karunaratne (28 not out) remained undefeated at stumps. Sri Lanka won a good toss and made decent initial breakthroughs after making a decision to bowl first.
Bangladesh vs New Zealand (715/6d)
BJ Wattling has surpassed Adam Parore’s 201 Test sackings to set a new New Zealand record. But that’s only a part of the history of what a decisive victory this has been. Bangladesh managed to score 663 runs in the match but was defeated by innings and 51 runs. The high point of New Zealand’s sole innings was Kane Williamson’s double century, but big hundreds from Jeet Raval and Tom Latham also paved the way for their big score of 715/6 proclaimed. Bangladesh had three centurions in total. Tamim Iqbal batted bravely in the first innings, while Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah both scored in the triple digits in the third.
Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka (648/8d)
Dimuth Karunaratne ended up leading Sri Lanka to 229-3 at stumps on the 3rd day of the first test, leaving them 312 runs behind Bangladesh’s humungous 541-7. When Sri Lankans began their reply, there was very little risk from Bangladesh pace bowlers, but the two bowlers — Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan — were lauded for some rigid bowling. Karunaratne is Sri Lanka’s finest spin bowler, and the skipper effectively rebutted the danger, but his team necessitates at least two extra big alliances. Karunaratne swung the bat for over five hours for his 85-run stand as play was stretched on day three to make up for hours lost due to poor lighting. Angelo Mathews was dismissed for 25 yards for clumsy foot movement. The seasoned campaigner misplayed a full delivery from Taijul, which he should have played on the front foot. The ball slipped by the bat and landed on the stumps.
