Playing for either Real Madrid or Barcelona is considered to be a great step in any footballer’s career. There have been some of the players who have worn the jerseys for both sides of El Classico. Pressure is always high while playing an El Classico but to be doing so against your former team is something totally different. Here are some of the players who played for both Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Luis Figo (95-2000 for Barcelona) (2000-05 for Real Madrid)
Real Madrid and Barcelona made their most well-known trade in 2000. From Sporting Lisbon, Luis Figo moved to Barcelona in 1995. He stayed there until 2000 when Florentino Perez broke a transfer record by bringing him to Real Madrid. In 249 games for Barcelona, Figo scored 45 goals before he transferred to Los Blancos. For the Spanish capital side, Figo scored 58 goals in 245 games.
Luis Enrique (1991-96 for Real Madrid) (1996-04 for Barcelona)
Luis Enrique from Sporting Gijon played at Real Madrid for five seasons starting in the 1991–1992 campaign. ‘Lucho’ moved from Madrid to Barcelona in the 1996/1997 season, staying there until the 2003/2004 season. He is one of the very few players to have scored for both clubs in an El Classico. In the white jersey, Enrique only managed to score 18 goals in 213 appearances. While for Barcelona, Lucho scored 109 goals in 300 matches.
Ronaldo Nazario (1996-97 for Barcelona) (2002-07 for Real Madrid)
In the 1996–1997 campaign, one of the greatest attackers in history moved from PSV to Barcelona. After a solitary season, the Brazilian legendary forward moved to Inter Milan. After a few years at Inter, Florentino Perez acquired his services at Real Madrid, where he remained until the 2006–2007 campaign. In the one season he played for Barcelona he scored 47 goals in just 49 games. For Los Blancos, he scored 104 goals in just 177 games.
Samuel Eto’o (1998-2000 for Real Madrid) (2004-09 for Barcelona)
The striker from Cameroon joined Real Madrid as a young prodigy. Following a brief stint with Los Blancos, the striker first went on loan to Espanyol before joining Real Mallorca. He was signed by Barcelona in 2004 following his extraordinary growth in Spain, where he lasted until 2009 and had the best season of his career. In a short career with Real Madrid, he scored no goals in only 7 games. The Cameroonian striker for Barcelona was one of the most important players in them winning the treble in the 2008-09 season. He scored 130 goals in 199 matches.
