The competition for Purple Cap in the 16th season of the Indian Premier League has been intense and cutthroat after 25 games. Every team has identified their lead after having played 5 games. These bowlers also have repaid the trust shown in them by their franchise, sometimes even in tough conditions. Here is a look at how the bowlers have performed after 25 games in IPL 2023.

Purple Cap List

Mark Wood

The English speedster announced himself in IPL 2023 in some fashion. He took a five-wicket haul in his first match and remains the only bowler to take a five-wicket haul this season. The pacer from Lucknow Super Giants has taken 11 wickets and is the joint leader in the Purple Cap list. Mark Wood has taken these wickets at an average of 11.82 and has an economy of 8.12 runs per over (RPO).  His best figures are 5/14.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Last year’s Purple Cap winner is still in contention to make it two in a row. Yuzvendra Chahal has  11 scalps to his name in 5 games. The leg-spinner from Rajasthan Royals has taken these at an average of 14.27 and an economy of 7.85 RPO. His best figures are 4/17.

Rashid Khan

It is another spinner who is tied with Wood and Chahal for Purple Cap. Rashid Khan has always been the master of the art of spin. The leg spinner from Gujarat Titans has 11 wickets to his name. Rashid Khan also took a game-changing hat-trick against the Kolkata Knight Riders and almost won the match for his team before Yash Dayal was 5 sixes on the final 5 balls by Rinku Singh. His bowling average and economy are 15.09 and 8.30 RPO respectively. His best figures are 3/31.

Mohammed Shami

Rashid Khan is followed by his teammate on the Purple Cap list. Mohammed Shami has 10 wickets to his name at an average of 16.70. His economy this season has been 8.35 RPO. His best figures are 3/25.

Tushar Deshpande

The uncapped bowler from Chennai Super Kings has taken 10 wickets. Tushar Deshpande’s wickets have come at an average of 20.90. He and the CSK team would like it if his economy improves during the season. Currently, his economy is 11.40 RPO and his best figures are 3/45.
