In order to move this year’s Asia Cup out of Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is said to have received support from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). This is a major setback for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which had plans to host the premier continental competition.
Furthermore, if the tournament is moved from Pakistan, rumours state that both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are keen to host it.
Pakistan’s Stand over Asia Cup 2023 issue
Notably, the BCCI has previously insisted that the Asia Cup be held in a neutral location and refused to send its team to Pakistan for the competition.
Then, PCB created a “Hybrid Model” for the forthcoming Asia Cup in an effort to please BCCI; however, ACC has not yet given their approval. According to this scenario, Pakistan will host its games while India would play its games in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Not to mention that PCB chief Najam Sethi has made it clear that Pakistan will not participate in the Asia Cup in 2023 if the competition is moved from their country.
If Pakistan truly decides not to compete in the Asia Cup, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) may consider replacing the Men in Green with United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Jay Shah, the president of the ACC and secretary of the BCCI, has also promised the broadcasters that any losses incurred due to Pakistan’s absence will be made up for during a series involving India in the near future.
BCCI on Hybrid Model?

According to sources, the BCCI has been advised by the Narendra Modi-led Indian government to adopt a harsh stance at the ensuing ACC conference.
The BCCI is also not expected to endorse the hybrid proposal made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which would have allowed India the option of playing its matches at a neutral venue. The country’s participation in the ODI World Cup this year and the successful hosting of the Asia Cup are both at risk due to the current issue, which has been encouraged to be resolved rationally and quickly by Najam Sethi, the chairman of the PCB Management Committee.
