Football Transfer News: Where will Kylian Mbappe play?

4 Min Read

Kylian Mbappe in a letter to his club, Paris-Saint Germain has told that he will not be renewing his contract for another year. Mbappe’s contract ends in 2024 with an option to extend to 2025 which the Frenchman has declined. PSG’s biggest worry at this point would be to offload Mbappe during this summer as he could leave as a free agent otherwise next year.

Despite growing attention from Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid, the 23-year-old had already committed his future to the capital club for the following season. The French forward made clear in an official letter addressed to the club on Monday that he had some particular requests, therefore the option to extend his contract by another year, through 2025, will not be used. Mbappe was acquired by PSG for €180 million (£155 million/$194 million) in 2018, thus the club will be hoping to recoup some of their initial investment.

The news is of utmost importance to Real Madrid. Only a week ago did the 14-time European Champions bid farewell to veteran forward Karim Benzema, who decided to end his 14-year career at Real Madrid in preference of a move to Saudi Arabia. Although Los Blancos are looking for a forward and have already contacted Chelsea about Kai Havertz’s availability, the possibility to sign their top transfer target as early as this summer may be too much to pass up.

Mbappe to Real Madrid?

Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid always looked like a possibility and since 2017 when he left Monaco for PSG it was believed that one day he will be a part of Los Blancos.

It all began with a picture from the past. An image of a young Kylian Mbappe leaning against the wall while sitting on his childhood bed is surrounded by a collage of Cristiano Ronaldo posters. There isn’t a single blank square in his room; everything is covered in a Real Madrid legend.

That picture originally surfaced in 2017, when the then-Monaco forward was looking for a new team. At the age of 18, he was already considered one of the top attackers in the world. He made PSG his current choice, delaying his early ambitions. But he was always expected to play for Real Madrid at some point.

It is currently trending in the football world once more after six years. Mbappe told PSG yesterday that he would not be extending his deal, which is up at the end of the upcoming campaign. Less than a year prior, he turned down offers from Madrid and pledged at least another two years of his career to Paris.

Mbappe to leave PSG for free?

Mbappe will never, ever leave PSG for free, according to the club’s uncompromising attitude. They maintain that come summer, he will either reconsider and sign a new, long-term contract or leave for sizable money.

And right now might be the ideal time to profit. Mbappe, one of the best players in the world, was born and raised in Paris. He has, nevertheless, never lost sight of the Spanish capital. And at this point, Madrid is almost guaranteed to pay up when they need a striker.
