Football Transfers: How likely is Declan Rice to Arsenal?

4 Min Read

Declan Rice has been the number 1 target for Arsenal for the summer transfer. Mikel Arteta is keen on signing the 24-year-old West Ham captain. The Hammers are ready to let go of their captain if they find the right price. Arsenal has already made two bids for the UEFA Europa Conference League-winning captain. The latest bid from the Gunners was £90 million, out of this £90 million, £75 million were supposed to be paid upfront. West Ham is sticking with their £100 million valuation.

Manchester United

The tedious bidding process from Arsenal’s side has allowed Manchester United to enter the race for the midfielder. United are preparing a much more lucrative offer but in a play swap plus cash deal. The Red Devils are ready to swap either Harry Maguire or Scott McTominay for Rice. Manchester United already have a great mid-field line-up with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro in the squad and will benefit a lot with the addition of a mid-fielder like Rice. It is still unknown how much cash Man. United is offering along with a player in their deal.

According to Romano, Arsenal will be paying £60 million upfront and will pay £5 million as add-ons. The German mid-fielder cost Chelsea £71 million three years ago. Havertz was a flop for Chelsea as despite scoring the winner in the 2021 UEFA Champions League Final he has been a poor signing for the English club. Havertz has scored only 19 goals in 91 games in the Premier League for Chelsea.

Rice to Arsenal?

Arsenal enjoyed a pretty successful transfer window last season which saw them signing players like Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko. According to Romano, Arsenal still remains the favourites to sign Declan Rice. The North London club are expected to submit a new improved bid for Rice as he is the number 1 target for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. Rice is keen to play under Arteta despite reported interest from clubs like Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Arsenal fell short of the Premier League in the 2022-23 season despite leading the Premier League table for several weeks. One of the biggest reasons for their downfall in the later stage of the league was the lack of depth in their squad. With the signings of Havertz and possibly Rice, Arsenal will look to challenge Manchester City once again for the Premier League. Belgian midfielder Romeo Lavia and Ajax defender Jurrien Timber are also on target for Arsenal in this summer transfer window.
