The British Grand Prix at Silverstone 2025 marked a historic moment not only for Formula 1 but also for the world of trophies. The top three drivers and the winning constructor were awarded the first-ever Formula 1 LEGO trophies made entirely from LEGO bricks. This innovative tribute celebrated F1’s 75th anniversary and honored Silverstone’s legacy as the site of the sport’s inaugural World Championship race in 1950.
LEGO Trophies Design and Construction
The LEGO trophies were inspired by the iconic Royal Automobile Club (RAC) golden British Grand Prix trophy, reimagined with a playful, modern twist. The winner’s trophy, presented to McLaren’s Lando Norris, stood 59 cm tall, weighed over 2 kg, and was composed of 2,717 genuine LEGO bricks.
The second and third-place trophies, awarded to Oscar Piastri and Nico Hülkenberg, respectively, were slightly smaller at 43 cm tall, featuring bold red and blue detailing. The winning constructor, McLaren, also received a unique LEGO-built trophy in dark blue and gold.
Seven LEGO Master Builders in Billund, Denmark, led by designer Samuel Liltorp Johnson, dedicated over 210 hours to crafting these intricate trophies. A key challenge was ensuring the trophies were durable enough to withstand the exuberant podium celebrations typical of F1, including champagne showers and trophy lifts.
To achieve this, the trophies were reinforced with a LEGO Technic spine acting as a skeleton and glued together for extra strength, preventing damage during post-race festivities.
LEGO Trophies Legacy

The LEGO trophies symbolize a unique fusion of tradition and innovation. By using LEGO bricks, a globally beloved toy, the trophies introduce a playful element to the prestigious sport, aiming to engage younger fans and families worldwide as part of a multi-year partnership between LEGO and Formula 1. This collaboration extends beyond trophies to include immersive fan experiences such as pre-race LEGO car parades and branded merchandise, designed to spark creativity and joy.
Silverstone CEO Stuart Pringle praised the initiative, calling it a fitting way to mark the 75th anniversary of F1’s first World Championship race at the circuit. The LEGO trophies add a fresh and memorable dimension to the iconic podium celebrations, with the drivers proudly displaying their brick-built awards.
Drivers’ Reactions
The new trophies received mixed but generally positive reactions from the drivers. Nico Hülkenberg, who celebrated his first-ever F1 podium, expressed affection for LEGO trophies, noting its appeal to families, though he humorously wished for a bit of silver or gold as well. Oscar Piastri joked about the novelty of receiving a trophy that could be taken apart, highlighting the playful spirit behind the design.
Overall, the LEGO trophies at the Silverstone 2025 not only honor the sport’s rich history but also invite a new generation to connect with F1 through the universal language of play and imagination. As keepsakes, they stand as vibrant reminders of a landmark race and a bold celebration of Formula 1’s 75 years of racing excellence.
