AC Milan will welcome Champions League football back to the San Siro for the first time in seven years as they welcome Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night. Both the clubs played against each other in Milan’s last European game at San Siro in 2014.
Milan comes into the game full of confidence having won five out of their opening six matches in the league. They are only behind Napoli in second place. However, Milan must respond in Europe after losing to Liverpool in the first group game.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid come into the match after a shocking defeat at Alaves as they lost 1-0. Atletico Madrid has struggled throughout this campaign, often winning games late. They also dropped points against Porto in their first match in the Champions League.
Their star man, Antoine Griezmann is yet to have a shot on target. The Frenchman has a measly 8 attempts on goal and has not contributed towards any of Atleti’s goals.
AC Milan
AC Milan will miss Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Rade Krunic with injury. Simon Kjaer and Alessandro Florenzi trained with the squad on Monday and could play against Atleti. Meanwhile, Davide Calabria returned to the team along with Olivier Giroud in the win over Spezia. However, Ante Rebic is expected to lead the line against Atleti as Giroud is still not at 100%.
Atletico Madrid
Centre-back, Serbian, Stefan Savic continues to serve a suspension in the Champions League and will not be available. As a result, Jose Gimenez is expected to step in for the Serbian. WInger, Thomas Lemar is back in the squad after being out for two weeks. Meanwhile, João Félix could feature in the team after being out in La Liga matches with suspension.
