The Denver Broncos are a team in the National Football League that competes at the professional level of American football (NFL). Denver has won three Super Bowls. And eight American Football Conference (AFC) titles (1998, 1999, and 2016). In 1960, the Denver Broncos began operations as an American Football League charter member. Their original owner was Bob Howsam, a minor-league baseball owner. A year later, they were acquired by the building entrepreneur George Phipps Throughout the first ten years of its existence, the team was unsuccessful, and local groups saved them on numerous occasions as they teetered on the brink of collapse. Edgar Kaiser Jr., a Canadian entrepreneur, owned the team in 1981 before Pat Bowlen acquired the Denver Broncos in 1984.

Denver Broncos History:

  • In 1960, while the American Football League was still in existence and not yet a part of the National Football League, the Denver Broncos began their playing careers.
  • The stadium where the Broncos presently play was acquired by the city of Denver in 1968 and renamed Denver Mile High Stadium.
  • Under head coach John Ralston, the Broncos had their first winning season in 1973, going 7-5-2.
  • The Broncos won seven AFC Western Division titles and four AFC titles between 1977 and 1991.
  • In 1998 and 1999, the Denver Broncos defeated the Green Bay Packers and Atlanta Falcons to become one of five teams to win consecutive Super Bowls.
  • When the Denver Broncos made it to Super Bowl 50 in 2015, they joined only three other teams in NFL history with that feat. It was their third Super Bowl victory, and they won by a score of 24-10 over the Carolina Panthers.
