ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Big blow to Afghanistan team, this mystery spinner is out, will not play in IPL also
Afghanistan’s mystery spinner AM Gazanfar has been ruled out of both the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the IPL due to a lower back fracture, the Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed on Wednesday. The Champions Trophy begins on February 19. Afghanistan has been placed in Group B along with Australia, England and South Africa.
Left-arm spinner Nangeyaliya Kharote has been included in Afghanistan’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to be held in Pakistan and UAE from February 19. 20-year-old Kharote has played seven ODIs and six T20 matches since his debut last year. Gazanfar was injured during Afghanistan’s tour of Zimbabwe last year and will be out of the team for at least four months.

Afghanistan Cricket Board wrote on X, ‘AM Gazanfar is out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to injury. He has a fracture in his lower back. He was injured during the Zimbabwe tour and will be out for at least four months.’ IPL is scheduled to be held from March 21 to May 25 in which Gazanfar was to play for Mumbai Indians.
ACB also informed that off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman will remain out of the ODI team until he is fully fit although he played for Paarl Royals in SA 20. Afghanistan has to play its first match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against South Africa on 21 February in Karachi. After this, the team will face England on 26 February and Australia on 28 February. Afghanistan team can be seen making upsets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
