After KKR, Punjab Kings in the pursuit of appointing a new Head Coach replacing Anil Kumble

Following in the suit of Kolkata Knight Riders, another IPL team Punjab Kings is now on a hunt for a new head coach. The team’s management is keen on hiring a new head coach ahead of the next season of the most celebrated domestic league.

Currently, Anil Kumble holds the position of head coach for the team co-owned by Bollywood celebrity, Preity Zinta. Recently, KKR announced the appointment of Chandrakant Pandit as their head coach replacing Brendon McCullum. Pandit has been an active figure in first-class Indian cricket leading his respective teams to conquer the Ranji trophy.

The initial reports about the replacement suggest that the Punjab management is eyeing Eoin Morgan, Trevor Bayliss, and one former India coach for the role.

Eoin Morgan has recently announced his retirement from cricket after a successful run as England’s captain. Morgan went unsold at this year’s IPL mega-auction. Moreover, Trevor Bayliss has been in the IPL circuit for quite some time now. Bayliss has worked with teams like KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad previously. Additionally, he assisted the England team when they conquered the 2019 ODI world cup.

A source at cricbuzz revealed Punjab’s plan of recruiting a new coach. “The Mohali team has apparently decided not to renew Anil Kumble’s three-year contract, which ends this September. They are already in search of candidates. It is learnt that their representatives have approached the likes of Eoin Morgan, Trevor Bayliss and one former India coach. Eventually one of them or none of them may get the posting. A Punjab Kings official said they will decide in a week’s time,” says the report. The name of the third contender, apparently an Indian coach remains unrevealed in the report.
