South Africa’s stand-in captain, Aiden Markram, got angry at his team’s fast bowler, Lungi Ngidi, for missing an easy run-out opportunity during the match against England in the ongoing Champions Trophy.

The incident took place in the fourth over of the match while Lungi Ngidi was bowling. He bowled a delivery outside the off stump, which was played past backward point. It looked like a sure boundary, but Tristan Stubbs chased the ball down and managed to stop it just inside the boundary line.

Tristan Stubbs threw the ball toward the bowler’s end as Duckett struggled to complete the third run. However, Ngidi wasn’t at the bowler’s end to collect the ball and attempt the run-out. Aiden Markram tried to run to the non-striker’s end from mid-on but was unable to get there in time to run Duckett out.

Duckett would have been well short of his crease if someone had been there to collect the ball. Skipper Markram was furious with Ngidi, as he expected him to be behind the stumps for the run-out. Ngidi, too, was disappointed for missing such an easy opportunity.

SA Vs ENG CT 2025 – What did the captains say at the toss?

Jos Buttler (England):

We are gonna bat first today, looks like a decent wicket, a few cracks there. I felt like it was time, so I didn’t want to take more time to take that decision. It was an easy decision and I will do it for one last time, hopefully we can do well. A bit of sadness as well, it’s an honour to captain your country, it’s something you dream about and I have had some good moments along the way. Saqib Mahmood comes in, he is a good new-ball bowler and it’s exciting to have him.”

Aiden Markram (South Africa):

We are actually happy to chase, haven’t chased in this comp yet, we are looking forward to have a good game against a strong English side. Two guys have had illness around the camp, Tony and Temba miss out. Unfortunate that they miss out but hopefully they will recover. Our last game got rained out, we had a few training sessions, we are ready for this game.”
