Allan Border is one of the most iconic figures in Australian cricket history. He is widely regarded as the man who changed the face of the game in Australia, leading the nation to its first World Cup victory in 1987. Border, born in Cremorne, New South Wales, on July 27, 1955, is one of the most successful captains in cricket history. He captained Australia in a record 93 tests, leading the side to series wins against all the major nations during his tenure. Border was a left-handed batsman and a medium-pace bowler. In 1974, he played his first game for New South Wales.

In 1978, he played his first game for Australia against England. He quickly established himself as an integral part of the Australian team and became a captain in 1984. He held the position for ten years and led Australia to the 1987 World Cup title. Border also won the Border – Gavaskar Trophy in 1988 and was named Player of the Series. Border is one of the most prolific batsmen in the game’s history. He scored 11,174 runs in Test cricket, at an average of 50.56. He also scored 15 centuries and 63 fifties in his Test career. He was also a successful one-day cricketer, scoring 6,524 runs and taking 78 catches.

He was appointed Chairman of Selectors for the Australian team in 2001 and held the position until 2006.
