Premier, the new in-game competition mode for VALORANT from game publisher Riot Games, will start its alpha testing phase the following week. The in-game competition mode, which was released along with Riot’s extensive VALORANT ecosystem improvements in 2023, aims to provide aspiring players with greater possibilities to pursue careers as professional athletes.
The Premier Foundation
Premier will be the foundation of VALORANT’s esports ecosystem pyramid. Users can create a team and participate in pre-arranged matches during a season, according to Riot Games’ description of the game mode. The team will compete in a division with athletes of comparable ability. Following that, each team will play in a season that consists of weekly matches and events.
The top teams will qualify for a postseason event where they can compete for the division championship. About a few weeks will pass between each season. When it is fully released, it is unknown if Premier will be accessible to all players or only to VALORANT players of a high rank.
Teams to Get Access in Alpha Phase
Only a few players in Brazil will get access to the alpha phase, according to the release. Additionally, around 60% of all the intended features and capabilities will be included in this version of Premier. The current alpha phase will be devoid of any other significant features.
When building the VCT ecosystem for 2023, VALORANT Competitive designer Jon Walker said: “We wanted to connect the game to the esports through a highly competitive mode that would allow millions of players to experience VALORANT in a way that is akin to our VCT pros and teams.”
Valorants Pros
By offering an objective other than ranked play, the new competitive game mode aims to strengthen VALORANT’s chances for a path to the pros.
According to Riot Games, entering an early alpha stage will allow the publisher to test, iterate, and receive feedback before releasing its finished version. The tournament system, matchmaking, general bugs, server load, tournament play (which includes a map pick-and-ban system), and team building are some of the major aspects that will be evaluated.
The esports ecology at VALORANT will alter significantly over the upcoming year. This features a new VCT Challengers system and the launch of three overseas leagues that are partially franchised.
