Batting star Alyssa Healy has admitted that Australia will need to be ready for plenty of spin if they want to lift the Women’s World Cup for a record eighth time in the subcontinent.

Alyssa Healy warns of spin challenge in World Cup

The wicketkeeper-batter will be one of the biggest names to watch when the tournament kicks off in India and Sri Lanka next month, with the Southern Stars aiming to defend the title they won in New Zealand back in 2022.

Healy gave fans a glimpse of what she’s capable of just recently, smashing an unbeaten 137 to guide Australia A to a comfortable nine-wicket win over India A in the third one-dayer. That victory helped her side grab a consolation win in the series.

Even though Australia A went down 1-2 overall, Healy stood tall in her role as opener, finishing as the leading run-scorer across the three games. She had already scored 91 in the previous match, once again showing her class against India A’s spin-heavy attack that featured Radha Yadav, Minnu Mani, Tanuja Kanwar, and Prema Rawat.

“They’ve (India A) got a really spin-heavy attack and we’re going to have to play a lot of that throughout the World Cup as well, a lot of the middle overs will be spin-biased,” Healy told cricket.com.au.

Australia A looked far more determined in the final game, comfortably chasing down 217 in less than 28 overs with just one wicket lost, thanks largely to Healy’s dominant knock.

Coach Dan Marsh was impressed with Healy’s preparation

Coach Dan Marsh was full of praise for her effort, saying it was exactly the kind of preparation she needed before heading into the World Cup.

“Alyssa batted well today. All pre-season she’s been looking good, and it was just nice to see her get some match practice and put that into place heading into India,” Marsh said.

“She’ll be really happy with her two weeks (with Australia A), will have a nice little rest at home now and be ready to go to India,” he added.
