Alyssa Jean Healy (born March 24, 1990) is an Australian cricket player who represents the Australian women’s cricket team, New South Wales in domestic cricket, and the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League. In February 2010, she made her professional debut. She is the daughter of Greg Healy, who was a member of the Queensland team, and her uncle Ian Healy, who was Australia’s Test wicketkeeper and holds the world record for the most Test sackings. Healy came to popularity in late 2006 when she became the first girl to compete against boys in New South Wales’ private school competition. She advanced through the state age groups and made her senior New South Wales team debut in 2007-08.
She spent the majority of her first two seasons as a highly specialized batter owing to the presence of Leonie Coleman, an Australian wicketkeeper. Coleman left New South Wales at the beginning of the 2009-10 season, and Healy took over as the state’s full-time gloveman. During the same season, she made the most sackings of any wicketkeeper in the Women’s National Cricket League and scored her top score of 89 not out at a run a ball.
Following the injuries sustained to Australia’s captain and wicketkeeper Jodie Fields, Healy made her international debut against New Zealand in the 2010 Rose Bowl series. She appeared in the first five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) but was decided to drop for the final three ODIs of the series in New Zealand. Healy appeared in every match of Australia’s undefeated season to the World Twenty20 title in 2010. Healy was dismissed for the 92nd time as a wicketkeeper in the 2nd WT20I match against New Zealand in September 2020. As a consequence, she surpassed M. S. Dhoni’s previous record of 91 sackings to set a new record for the most sackings by a wicketkeeper, male or female, in Twenty20 International cricket.
