The American Cup 2025 recently concluded on 24 March 2025, and the winners will not surprise you. The tournament featured some of the top chess talents and took place at the World Chess Hall of Fake in St. Louis, Missouri. The event consisted of two separate double-elimination brackets, with each bracket featuring eight of the strongest players in the country.
Hikaru Nakamura, the former winner of the tournament, became the reigning champion of the men’s bracket by defeating World Number 4, Fabiano Caruana securing massive prize money of $75,000 along with a bonus of $15,000 bonus from the Champions Bracket.
Meanwhile, in the women’s bracket, the defending champion, Alice Lee, claimed her second consecutive title at the American Cup at a young age of just 15 years old.

GM Hikaru Nakamura claimed his title by defeating Caruana in a final match, which ended in a draw. Throughout the tournament, he showcased his exceptional skills and strategy while keeping his calm and composure. He won six out of seven matches, with only one draw before the finals against Wesley So. This win could be crucial in boosting his morale for the upcoming Freestyle Chess Tour in April 2025.

Alice Lee, on the other hand, started slow and lost the first classical game but managed to pull out a draw in the second classical game. With the match tied at one win each, it proceesed to a blitz tiebreaker where she claimed the win in both games to clinch her second consecutive American Cup title. Her tactics and resilience are commendable, especially at such a young age.
