The Asia Cup saga appears to be coming to an end. While the Pakistan Cricket Board is determined to host the tournament in its own country, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is unwilling to send the Indian team to the neighbouring country over ‘security issues’. As the discussion continues, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi made a big claim, claiming that his team was threatened by an Indian during a previous tour of India, but they still decided to come.

“Who is refusing to participate in the Asia Cup? India has said no “In an interview with the media on the sidelines of the Legends League Cricket, the former Pakistan captain said.

Afridi also stated that if the Indian team decides to visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup, Pakistan will take excellent care of them.

“Aap ko bheje toh sahi, humlog sar aankhon par rakhenge (You just send the Indian team to Pakistan and we will welcome them with great pleasure). Previously, an Indian from Mumbai, who will not be identified, had threatened Pakistan that they would not be permitted to enter India. But we set everything aside, and our government took it on as a responsibility, and the Pakistan team did travel to India. Threats should not destabilise our relationship. Threats will persist “He stated.

Speaking of old stories about Indo-Pakistan cricket ties, the retired cricketer shared memorable anecdotes from India’s 2005 tour of Pakistan.

“It would have been fantastic if India had arrived. It would have been a step forward for India in terms of cricket and Pakistan. We do not want wars and fights in our generation; we want our relationships to improve. We played with a lot of love and affection against India. When we went to India, we received a fantastic response. If you remember the 2005 series, Harbhajan and Yuvraj used to go shopping and to restaurants without being charged. This is the beauty of our two countries “He stated.
