Indian veteran cricketer R Ashwin has become a co-owner of the new team, American Gambits ahead of the Global Chess League. It is a joint venture between Tech Mahindra and the International Chess Federation. The Global Chess League will feature six franchises for the second edition. The league is scheduled to kickstart in London from October 3rd to 12th.
In the second edition of the Global Chess League, Ashwin’s American Gambits, owned by prominent business leaders Prachura PP, will compete alongside other formidable teams such as Alpine SG Pipers, PBG Alaskan Knights, Ganges Grandmasters, Mumba Masters, and defending champions Triveni Continental Kings for the ultimate glory.
Announcing his arrival in the world of chess, R Ashwin wrote:
“We’re thrilled to introduce the American Gambits to the chess world. With a blend of strategic brilliance and unwavering determination, our team aims to redefine the game. As co-owner, I’m excited to witness their journey and contribute to their success.”
Anand Mahindra Welcomed R Ashwin To The World Of Chess
Meanwhile, the Mahindra Group chairperson, Anand Mahindra has welcomed R Ashwin to the world of chess. Anand Mahindra took to his social media and claimed that he was not surprised that Ashwin had decided to venture into chess, praising his ability to conjure winning strategies on the cricket field. Mahindra Tweeted:
“I am not surprised that Ravichandran Ashwin has entered the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League. Because he’s one of our most cerebral cricket stars. He’s a supreme strategist in the way he approaches the game & his opponents.”

Five-time World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand also shared a heartfelt message, welcoming the ace bowler into the world of chess. He wrote:
