The Zurich Classic is the only PGA Tour’s official team event, and once again, it has delivered a dramatic outcome as Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin won their first PGA Tour title and the defending champions, Roy McIlroy and Shane Lowry, could not give an impactful performance.

Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin secured their maiden PGA Tour victory in a dramatic finish. They entered the final round with a three-stroke lead and faced early challenges. However, despite these challenges, they maintained their lead and secured the title. The win was specifically sweet for Novak since he narrowly missed out on a win in the previous event, the RBC Heritage.

Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin’s Historic Win

Not just that, but it was also Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin’s 100th and 90th PGA Tour appearances, respectively. Reflecting on the win, Novak said, “I’m glad we got it done. We kept it together. That putt on 17 was unbelievable. It seems like a movie script, like it’s not real. But it’s just perfect how it all came together.”

Ben Griffin also summed up the victory and said, “I think for both Andrew and I, it felt like it was only a matter of time out here. We both put ourselves in the mix a bunch, especially this season, but even going back to last season. I couldn’t think of a better guy to get it done with, right here with Andrew.”

As good as the weekend was for Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin, the defending champions, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry, faced a disappointing campaign as they failed to defend their title and finished in 12th position. They said on their loss, “I think when we went back out after the delay, we felt like we still had a good chance. And we didn’t make birdie on 11, and then we bogeyed 13 again for the second time this week.”

Lowry said, “Just today, nothing really happened for us.”

McIlroy specifically suffered a major blow as he won the previous event, RBC Heritage, and hoped to continue his winning streak, while Lowry was happy to have him in the team as they bid for a repeat.
