Anish secures India’s 12th Paris 2024 Olympics quota with bronze in Asian Shooting C’ships

Anish Bhanwala clinched a bronze medal in the men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol event at the ongoing Asian Shooting Championship, earning India its 12th quota spot for the Paris 2024 Olympics. His score of 588 secured his third-place qualification for the final, where he shot 28 before a shoot-off with Japan’s Dai Yoshioka, who claimed the silver.

India has now amassed 30 medals at the event, including eight golds. Anish’s performance marked the fifth quota secured by India in Changwon. His consistent shooting across the qualifying stages positioned him well, finishing just one point behind China’s Wang Xinjie.

With this victory, Anish secured one of the two available Paris spots, as other countries had already fulfilled their quotas. However, other Indian shooters like Vijayveer Sidhu and Adarsh Singh had varying performances, with Sidhu finishing 10th overall and Singh placed 25th.

The men’s trap team, including Zoravar Singh Sandhu, Kynan Chenai, and Prithviraj Tondaiman, bagged a silver, finishing behind Qatar in the team competition. On the women’s side, shooters like Rajeshwari Kumari and Shagun Chowdhary displayed commendable performances, albeit not in medal contention.
