Anmol Kharb, an 18-year-old badminton player, made it to the headlines after defeating top seed Anupama Upadhyaya in the 38th National Games. The tournament has been going on since 28 January in Uttrakhand, and she has been playing tremendously since the first match.
She has previously won the Belgian International and the Asia Team Championships in 2024.
On 4 February, she won the gold medal in women’s singles after beating the top seed by 21-16, 22-20 in a match against Anupama, who is a BWF World Junior Number 1 and Indian National Badminton Champion 2023. Unnati Hooda also clinched the gold medal playing against team Uttrakhand.
Meanwhile, in mixed doubles, the Tamil Nadu players Satish Kumar and Aadya Variyath won against the Maharashtrian team with a score of 21-11, 20-22, 21-8 to win the top spot.
Nithin HV and Prakash Raj S defeated Karnataka’s Vaibhav and Ashith Surya In men’s doubles, by 21-16, 21-14 to win the gold medal.

Later in the day, top seed Sathish Kumar Karunakaran of Chennai will face Uttarakhand’s 16-year-old local hope Suryaksh Rawat in the men’s singles final.
