Aron James Charged Under ICC And CWI Anti-Corruption Codes

USA international cricketer Aron James has been formally charged by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a number of violations of anti-corruption rules. The governing body has also imposed an immediate suspension from all forms of cricket, giving the batter 14 days to respond to the charges.

Immediate Suspension Ends World Cup Selection Chances

The 31-year-old was a part of a USA training camp in Sri Lanka, where the team was preparing for the upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup. Although the USA team has not been finalized yet, it was expected to be picked from the players who are a part of the training camp. However, Aron James is no longer eligible for selection.

Charges Linked to Bim10 Tournament and International Matches

As per an official statement by the ICC, the charges against Aron James are primarily because of his participation in the 2023-24 Bim10 tournament in Barbados, which is administered by Cricket West Indies (CWI). Two other charges are related to international matches, making a total of five violations.

Details of the Anti-Corruption Charges

The ICC specified the following violations against Aron James:

  • Article 2.1.1 (CWI Code): Involvement in the fixing or improper influence of matches during the Bim10 tournament
  • Article 2.4.2 (CWI Code): Failure to report corrupt approaches to Cricket West Indies
  • Article 2.4.4 (CWI Code): Failure to cooperate with an official anti-corruption investigation
  • Article 2.4.4 (ICC Code): Failure to disclose corrupt approaches to the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit
  • Article 2.4.7 (ICC Code): Obstruction of an ICC ACU investigation by concealment or tampering with information

ICC Hints at Wider Ongoing Investigation

The ICC has confirmed that the case involving Aron James is part of a wider anti-corruption investigation, with the possibility of further charges being brought against other individuals in the near future.

Aron James represented the USA internationally in 2019 and has played:

  • 52 One-Day Internationals
  • 48 T20 Internationals

He was an outstanding performer in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he scored:

  • A match-winning 94 off 40 balls vs Canada
  • An unbeaten 36 off 26 balls vs Pakistan, in a historic upset win

He has also played in major franchise leagues such as the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Major League Cricket (MLC), and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). His last international match was in April 2025.
