Who is Cristhian Mosquera?
Well, he’s not your average defender. Born in Alicante with Colombian roots, Mosquera actually started out as a basketball kid before taking a detour into futsal. From there, the football bug bit, and by 2013, he was sprinting down the wing for local side Hercules as a pacey attacker.
Fast forward to 2022, and he was making his senior debut for Valencia in the Copa del Rey, not as a winger, but as a towering defender. Talk about a glow-up.
Why Arsenal Want Him
Let’s keep it simple: Arsenal want depth. With Takehiro Tomiyasu exiting via mutual contract termination (cheerio, Takehiro), the Gunners needed someone versatile enough to cover both centre-back and right-back. Mosquera fits the bill, young, experienced, and built like a brick wall with a GPS for the ball.
He made 90 appearances for Valencia including 37 out of 38 full 90-minute shifts last season in La Liga. That’s reliability you can set your calendar to.
