The Delhi Premier League (DPL) has quickly turned into a big stage for young cricketers to showcase their talent, and this season has already seen some exciting performances. Among the rising stars is Aryavir Sehwag, son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, who’s starting to make a name for himself.

Aryavir Sehwag Impresses Against Navdeep Saini

Playing for the Central Delhi Kings, Aryavir grabbed attention when he hit back-to-back fours off India pacer Navdeep Saini during a quick 16-ball knock of 22 runs. Earlier, he had also impressed with a century in the Cooch Behar Trophy.

Speaking to the media after his recent DPL outing, Aryavir Sehwag revealed how he got his chance to debut in the league. Yash Dhull had to miss the game against the East Delhi Riders because of his Duleep Trophy commitments, and that opened the door for him.

After the last game [I got to know that I will play the next one],” Aryavir shared. “I took that catch in the previous match. After the game ended, Jonty [Sidhu] bhaiyya told me that I would play the next match.”

Talking about his debut innings, Aryavir Sehwag admitted those early boundaries helped him settle down. Even though it wasn’t a big score, he felt it was an important step.

“It felt good. The first two boundaries gave me confidence and helped me settle in. But the innings wasn’t that long. I will try to stay longer in the middle next time,” he said.

Guidance From Father Virender Sehwag

With the DPL entering its crucial stage, Aryavir Sehwag is also looking forward to learning from none other than his father.

“Absolutely. Jab father sahab bolenge to sunna to padega hi (I have to listen to my father),” he said with a smile.

Aryavir Sehwag also pointed out that while the players know scouts are keeping a close eye on them, they try not to think about it too much.

We are aware that we are being monitored. The scouts have their eyes on us. But we don’t think about it too much, especially when we are on the field. We just focus on the game,” he explained.
