The second Women’s Singles Quarter-finals of the US Open 2021 saw the reigning Roland-Garros champion Barbora Krejčíková face defeat by the hands of Aryna Sabalenka, 23, from Belarus.
Aryna Sabalenka seeded 2nd in the tournament won in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 against the No. 8th seed Barbora Krejčíková on Tuesday night at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.
The Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka dominated the whole match, as the 25-year-old Barbora Krejčíková from the Czech Republic couldn’t turn it around and lost the match which lasted for about 1 hour and 26 minutes.
Whereas, for Sabalenka this is her first-ever US Open semi-final and the second consecutive Grand Slam semi-final having reached the Wimbledon 2021 women’s singles semi-final in July. Where she lost to Karolina Pliskova in three sets, she then reached a career-high ranking of World No.3 after her performance at Wimbledon.
As a result, Sabalenka will next face Canada’s Leylah Fernandez, 19, in the 2021 US Open Women’s Singles Semi-final on 10th September, Friday.
However, her next opponent had an amazing spell defeating top-ranked players like Naomi Osaka, the defending champion, Angelique Kerber, and Elina Svitolina in back-to-back matches.
However, the semi-final encounter will mark the first meeting between Sabalenka and Fernandez.
