Aryna Sabalenka’s Road To The 2025 Italian Open Final
Aryna Sabalenka, the World No. 1, targets the 2025 Italian Open final after an impressive season. Will she achieve the trifecta of titles in Miami, Madrid, and Rome?

Aryna Sabalenka, who has won WTA 1000 titles in Miami and Madrid, is now aiming for the 2025 Italian Open. If she wins in Rome, she will become the first woman since Serena Williams in 2013 to win titles in Miami, Madrid, and Rome in the same season.
Sabalenka has been in excellent form this season and has reached six finals and winning four of them in a row. She has won three titles in 2025 (Brisbane, Miami, and Madrid) and is currently the World No. 1. She has also won 31 matches this season, leading the tour in victories after her Madrid Open win.

ToggleSabalenka’s Path to the 2025 Italian Open Final
Round 2: Dayana Yastremska / Anastasia Potapova
Aryna Sabalenka could face Dayana Yastremska in the second round. Yastremska has a 3-1 head-to-head advantage over Sabalenka, but Sabalenka won their match in the third round of last year’s Italian Open. Potapova would be a more predictable opponent for Sabalenka, as she has defeated Potapova before in the 2023 Stuttgart semifinal.
Round 3: Sofia Kenin / Katie Boulter
Aryna Sabalenka might meet Sofia Kenin in the third round. Kenin eliminated Sabalenka in the second round of Rome in 2023. Kenin’s form has been inconsistent lately, so Sabalenka could have the upper hand. If she faces Katie Boulter, Sabalenka is likely to win easily, as she has a 4-0 head-to-head record against Boulter.
Round 4: Leylah Fernandez / Daria Kasatkina
In the fourth round, Sabalenka could play Leylah Fernandez, who defeated her in the 2021 US Open semi-finals. However, Sabalenka is now a three-time Grand Slam winner, and Fernandez has not won a title since 2023. Sabalenka also has a strong 7-2 record against Daria Kasatkina, and Kasatkina has struggled on clay.
Quarter-final: Elena Rybakina / Qinwen Zheng
Elena Rybakina, who won Wimbledon in 2022, has been struggling lately and is currently ranked outside the WTA top 10. Sabalenka cannot underestimate her, though, as Rybakina has given her tough matches in the past. Sabalenka has dominated Qinwen Zheng, winning all six of their previous encounters. Zheng has also struggled recently, and although she won a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Games, she hasn’t won a title since October 2023.
Semi-final: Coco Gauff / Mirra Andreeva
Aryna Sabalenka might face one of her old rivals in the semi-final, either Coco Gauff or Mirra Andreeva. Sabalenka and Gauff have played many times, with their head-to-head record tied at 5-5. Sabalenka defeated Gauff in the Madrid Open final. If Sabalenka faces Andreeva, it will be their third meeting of the season, with Sabalenka leading 4-2.
Final: Jasmine Paolini / Iga Swiatek
Sabalenka might face Jasmine Paolini or Iga Swiatek in the final of the Italian Open 2025. Aryna Sabalenka has a 5-2 record against Paolini and is expected to win. Swiatek, the defending champion, has been struggling lately and hasn’t won a title since the 2024 French Open. Sabalenka has a good chance of winning if she faces either Paolini or Swiatek.
Aryna Sabalenka’s path to the 2025 Italian Open final could be challenging, but with her current form, she is in a strong position to win the tournament. If she does, she will join Serena Williams as the only woman to win the trifecta of titles in Miami, Madrid, and Rome in the same season.
