Ashleigh Katherine Gardner, born on April 15, 1997, is a professional Australian women’s squad cricketer. Ashleigh Gardner has had an excellent start to her career as an aggressive middle-order batter who can also bowl an effective off-break. The year 2015 was a watershed moment for Gardner. Gardner called a “child genius,” gained widespread acclaim as she led New South Wales to victory and led the team to the highest run total in the Cricket Australia under-18 Championships. Over time, she became the first Indigenous woman to win Australia’s Lord Taverners Indigenous Player of the Year award.

While playing for the NSW Breakers in the 2016–17 domestic season, she maintained her form, scoring 98 runs and claiming nine wickets in five games. The Southern Stars quickly called her up for national duty, and she made her T20I and ODI debuts against New Zealand in early 2017. She then went on to be instrumental in Australia’s successful World Cup campaign and subsequent Ashes victory that same year. When the WBBL returned for a second season, she again led the league in batting average with 414 for Sydney Sixers.

Gardner has been a rising figure to watch as Australia attempts to reclaim the World T20 crown due to her experience and plenty of talent with the bat and the ball. The Gujarat Giants paid 3.2 crores (about $500,000) to acquire her in the first-ever WPL auction, held in February 2023.
