Cracking the Asia Cup 2023 Format

The Asia Cup 2023 has reverted to the 50-over format after the T20 edition held in 2022, which was clinched by Sri Lanka after defeating Pakistan in the final. Six teams are vying for glory this time: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.

  • Group A: India, Pakistan, Nepal
  • Group B: Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh

A total of 13 matches, including the final, will determine the champion.

Super Four Stage Unveiled

The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage. In this stage, these qualified teams will face each other once in a round-robin format. The ultimate showdown is set for September 17, with the top two Super Four teams battling it out.

Notably, this format could potentially lead to three face-offs between arch-rivals India and Pakistan: one in the group stage, one in the Super Four stage, and another in the final.

Match Venues Across Asia

  • In Group A, one of the three matches will be held at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The tournament opener between Pakistan and Nepal took place at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
  • In Group B, only the Bangladesh vs. Sri Lanka match was hosted in Kandy, with the remaining two matches taking place at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
  • During the Super Four stage, except for the first match, all games are taking place at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The highly anticipated final will also unfold at this same venue.

As the Asia Cup 2023 continues, cricket fans can expect thrilling contests, unexpected twists, and memorable moments as the teams battle it out for continental glory.
