On Tuesday, September 17th, the Harmanpreet Singh-led Indian men’s hockey team defeated the hosts, China by 1-0 to lift their record fifth title in the just-concluded Asian Champions Trophy 2024. The final match, which took place at the Moqi Hockey Training Base in Hulunbuir witnessed the top two teams lock horns with each other in a high-voltage clash. India’s Jugraj Singh finished the tournament as the solitary goalscorer.
Harmanpreet Singh’s Leadership and Performance Stole The Show
During the showdown, China attempted to put immense pressure on India with its aggressive counter-attacks throughout the first three quarters. Despite multiple attacking moves from the Indian team, the Chinese goalkeeper Wang displayed incredible skills, making impressive saves during both open play and penalty corners.
However, all thanks to the sheer determination of the Indian team, they stole the show through in the final quarter of the game, with captain Harmanpreet Singh playing an instrumental role. Harmanpreet delivered a perfect cross to Jugraj Singh, who grabbed the opportunity, sending the ball past the Chinese goalkeeper to break the deadlock. Jugraj’s rare field goal proved to be the match-winner, registering India’s fifth title in the history of this tournament.
