Asian Champions Trophy: In the women’s hockey champions trophy, Indian women defeat Japan after China in the league stage. In the last match of its league stage, the Indian team defeated Japan 3-0. However, once again in the semis, team India is going to face Japan.
With this great win, the Indian women’s hockey team has marked its fifth consecutive win in the match for the Bihar Women’s Asian Hockey Champion Trophy underway at Rajgir Sports Academy today. In this match, India defeated Japan 3-0. For India, the league stage of this tournament has now come to an end, and this was the last match the team played in the league stage.
For that period, the team has proven itself and has remained on top of the points table owing to five successive wins so far.
In the semi-finals too, India will face Japan. This match will be played on Tuesday. The Indian team has performed brilliantly throughout the tournament. Having five wins and 15 points in five matches, they are full of confidence.
The first half remained goalless.
The first half of the game kept both scoreless. But in the second half, India dominated the ground. Vice-captain Navneet Kaur gave India a brilliant goal when she broke the net in the 37th minute of the game. Thereafter, the tournament’s top scorer Deepika scored two consecutive goals in the 47th and 48th minutes of the game, ensuring victory for India.
Indian team skipper Salima Tete was beaming with joy over the performance of the team by stating, ‘The Japanese team defended very well, but we kept our nerves and performed as a well-knit team in the second half. The win is due to sheer hard work and dedication. The semi-finals will demand the same rhythm. We knew that goals were not being scored in the first half, but we did not give up and the team did wonders together. Every player played his role, and this is our strength.
Deepika performed brilliantly for India. She scored two consecutive goals in the match. Expressing happiness after this strong game, she said, ‘This victory is special. Such a thing is always pleased to score the goal, but in reality, more correct is when one says that the team effort has produced this.
The audience has anew given us energy. It will not be easy to win in the semi-finals, but we’ll go with full preparation and the right mindset. Our defense also performed wonderfully which allowed us the chance to attack. I am glad that I could contribute to my team. When I was called the ‘lioness’ of India, it was a proud moment for me. This gives us a different energy.
Navneet Kaur scored the first goal for Team India against Japan. After the match, she said, ‘It feels great. It is always special to score a goal for the team.”. This is the result of efforts from all over the team. Our strategy was very clear: to strengthen the defense and attack at the right time. In the beginning, goals were not being scored, but we didn’t lose patience.
We will also focus in the same way in the semi-finals of the Asian Champions Trophy. Every player has proved himself in this tournament, and that is our biggest strength.’
