Atletico Madrid faces Espanyol in their La Liga fixture this week on Sunday evening.

La Liga previously suspended matches between Sevilla and Barcelona and the match between Villareal and Alaves. The matches were suspended because of the unavailability of South American players on Saturday due to their prolonged national duties. However, Atletico Madrid’s South American stars are already in training.

Matheus Cunha, Angel Correa, Jose Gimenez, and Rodrigo De Paul all were present in the last training session before the match. Among the four players, Matheus Cunha and Angel Correa trained with the rest of the group. Meanwhile, Gimenez and De Paul did recovery in the gym.

However, Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez will be able to start the match as he did not travel with Uruguay. The prolific goalscorer suffered a niggling injury just before the international break and did not play the qualifiers with his national team.

Angel Correa leads as the team’s top goalscorer this season. The Argentine has scored 3 goals for the team in as many games.

Atletico Madrid is currently sitting in 5th place on the table. They could potentially leapfrog Barcelona in the team as they won’t be playing this weekend. Atleti has won two games and drew the other game so far in the season. The champions travel to Estadi Cornellà-El Prat in Barcelona to face Espanyol.

Atletico Madrid’s new signing Antoine Griezmann could potentially make his second debut for the club tomorrow against Espanyol. The South American players are expected to play a part in the game. However, they might not start the game from the get-go.
