Atletico Madrid resurged in the Champions League with a commanding 6-0 triumph over Celtic at home. The Spanish side seized an early lead on Tuesday night as Antoine Griezmann unleashed a remarkable strike in the sixth minute. Their task became notably easier when Celtic’s Daizen Maeda received a red card in the 23rd minute for a studs-up challenge.

Alvaro Morata extended Atletico’s lead during first-half injury time, setting the tone for a smooth-sailing second half. Griezmann continued his dominance with a goal in the 60th minute, while Samuel Lino added to the scoreline just six minutes later. Morata netted his second of the night with 14 minutes left, and Saul Niguez concluded the rout with a close-range finish six minutes from the final whistle.

This victory propelled Atletico to the top of their group, leading by one point over Lazio and two points over Feyenoord. Their next challenge is against Feyenoord on November 28.

Meanwhile, FC Barcelona faced a setback in their quest for the last 16 of the tournament, suffering a 1-0 defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk in a match held in Hamburg.

Barcelona struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, and the Ukrainian side capitalized on their opportunity in the 40th minute when Danylo Sikan scored with a powerful header. Shakhtar’s forward outmuscled Andreas Christensen in the air, leaving Marc-Andre ter Stegen with no chance.

In the second half, Barca coach Xavi Hernandez sought to turn the tide by making several substitutions, including Joao Felix, Alejandro Balde, Pedri, and Lamine Yamal. The game turned into an end-to-end battle for the last half-hour, with both teams creating chances. Shakhtar thought they had another goal in the 87th minute, but it was disallowed for a tight offside.

Barcelona exerted pressure during seven minutes of injury time, but Shakhtar’s resilient defense secured a well-deserved victory, keeping their hopes of qualification alive.
