Australia has qualified for the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup scheduled to take place in Belgium and the Netherlands in 2026. The Aussies have qualified for the showpiece event courtesy of Great Britain who dropped crucial points against Belgium in their group match in the FIH Pro League 2023/24 season.

The New Rule
The Federation of International Hockey at the start of the new season in 2023-24 brought a new rule according to which the team that wins the title in either men’s or women’s competition of the FIH Pro League will earn a direct qualification in the World Cup scheduled to be held in Belgium and Netherlands in 2026.

In a case where the host nation of the World Cup wins the title of the FIH Pro League then the team that finishes just behind the host country in the points table of the FIH Pro League will earn a direct spot in the World Cup and the country in this case happened to be Australia who are currently at the top of the points table of the FIH Pro League with 34 points registered to there name and have already finished there tournament.

As far as the cost host of the 2026 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup Netherlands is concerned the team has earned 26 points and is yet to complete its FIH Pro League journey with four matches still left to play in the multination tournament.
