Ayush Badoni, the young cricketing prodigy from Delhi, is making waves both in the domestic and Indian Premier League. In a stellar act of performance during the present Ranji Trophy, Badoni played a sensational knock and made an unbeaten run of 205 for Delhi against Jharkhand. The Delhi captain’s Agarwal tour de force innings off 216 balls contained 16 boundaries and 10 sixes.

His brilliant century ensured that Delhi managed to draw the match as the team declared on the final day that was at 388 for 7, thus responding to Jharkhand’s score of 382 in its first innings. Badoni’s distinguished effort kept Delhi in the game so that no other batsman could match his brilliance.

In the first innings, Kumar Kushagra of Jharkhand went by in a tremendous display of batting through 156 runs while Virat Singh also gave a half-century in a sumptuous batting gala. Delhi could not even think of chasing the target that was set by Jharkhand, though they put up a good effort. Meanwhile, Badoni’s match-winning double century did the trick and ensured Delhi did not lose but draw the match.

Badoni will remain with the Lucknow team as an uncapped player since last season. The star of the retention list would be the explosive wicket-keeper batsman from the West Indies, Nicholas Pooran who would be signing the chunky ₹21 crore contract. Other notable retentions include young spinner Ravi Bishnoi and all-rounder Mayank Yadav, who are both retained at ₹11 crore each. Uncapped pacer Mohsin Khan has been retained at ₹4 crore, the same price at which Badoni has been retained.
