The nominees for the Ballon d’Or 2025 will be revealed today
The nominees will be revealed today (Thursday, 7 August) with shortlists for all categories announced in stages throughout the afternoon on the official L’Équipe website and app.
First awarded in 1956, the Ballon d’Or is both the name of the award presented to the world’s best men’s and women’s footballers, and the annual ceremony that honours standout performers from across the game. Organised by France Football, the event now includes prizes for young players, goalkeepers, coaches, clubs and humanitarian impact, alongside the prestigious individual trophies.
When are the 2025 Ballon d’Or Nominees Announced?

The nominees for the 2025 Ballon d’Or have already been decided by France Football committee when they met at the Hotel de Crillon in Paris. France Football has this year chosen to reveal the nominees for each award at a particular time.
From there, voters will choose from the 30-player list to select who they believe should win the award, with the presentation of the trophy to take place on September 22.
A variety of other awards are also given out during that ceremony, including:
- The Kopa Trophy – awarded to the best player below the age of 21, voting for this award is performed by previous Ballon d’Or winners based on a shortlist of 10.
- The Yashin Trophy – awarded to the best goalkeeper, voting for this award is performed by journalists based on a shortlist of 10.
- The Coach of the Year Trophy – awarded to the best manager, voting for this award is performed by journalists based on a shortlist.
- The Club of the Year Trophy – awarded to the best team, voting for this award is performed by journalists based on a shortlist.
