Aditya, who is currently ranked in the Top 1350 of the ATP rankings, has already battled ligament tears, recovered from getting bageled, and worked as a tennis instructor while still dominating in US Collegiate Tennis, all while navigating the pandemic’s frozen ranks.
According to the homepage of Radford University Athletics’ tennis program, “Balsekar succeeds at the M15 Futures Tournament.” He is preparing to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Regional competition in October and has an impressive singles record of 15-3 and 15-1 in his freshman and sophomore seasons, respectively.
Dr. Balraj Shukla of Indian Tennis Daily spoke with Aditya Balsekar, a brilliant young player who the tennis world needs to keep a careful eye on.
I’d be interested in learning about your adventure from the beginning.
I began playing tennis when I was 6 years old. I was introduced to tennis mostly for exercise. I was a fat child who was also very active. My parents urged me to participate in sports. My granddad was interested in sports, and my dad used to play badminton. They suggested that perhaps athleticism runs in the family. Due to my father, my mother wanted me to play badminton. However, he suggested that we try something else and enroll him in tennis.
It’s incredible how serious a tennis parent can be at that level
Yes, but originally for me, it was simply for fun. Twice or three times a week, I used to attend an academy. For roughly an hour, play. In fact, I frequently went to play cricket with my buddies back then. And after that, my coach suggested that we try to enter you in a competition. It appeared to be a U-10 tournament. It was placed in Mumbai’s Kalina University. I’m not sure how well-prepared I was. I needed to win six games to win the match, which I failed to do. However, it was enjoyable to play in that competition, so I decided to continue doing so if any more came up.
Even if my tennis improved, the outcomes of the events I played in after that did not much alter. I finished last in the U-10 division without having achieved victory.
After that, I relocated to AITA for U-12 games. I started participating in those little Talent Series competitions. I was ecstatic after winning a match in the opening round.
