BAN vs SL: Bangladesh Names ODI Squad For Sri Lanka Series
The second Test will begin on June 25. After that, Bangladesh is preparing to make changes to its squad for the three-match BAN vs SL ODI series, which will start on July 2.
Bangladesh has made five new additions to their team for the upcoming series. Experienced player Litton Das has returned to the squad. Along with him, Mohammad Naim, Shamim Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanvir Islam have also been included by the selectors.
Chief Selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain explained that Litton Das was left out of the team after being made the T20I captain. Between 2023 and 2024, Litton managed to score only 35 runs in 8 ODI matches, which led to his exclusion from the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
But now, with senior players like Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, and Mushfiqur Rahim retiring from ODIs, Litton Das is expected to be one of the most experienced players in the team.
“Litton Das was in a bad patch but time is the best healer. He is the T20 captain, so we can consider him till the next T20 World Cup,” said selector Ashraf. “If someone has to return to form, it is best to spend a long time in the middle. We feel that Litton can take his form from ODIs to T20Is.”
Along with Litton Das, Bangladesh has also included opener Mohammad Naim, all-rounder Shamim Hossain, and fast bowlers Hasan Mahmud and Tanvir Islam in the BAN vs SL ODI squad.
Chief Selector Ashraf mentioned that Naim earned his spot by performing well in the Dhaka Premier League. He has been preferred over Soumya Sarkar, who has struggled with poor form recently. This will be Naim’s first ODI appearance since 2023.
The addition of extra fast bowlers will help reduce the workload on the main seamers Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana. With these changes, Bangladesh now has five pace options – Mushfiqur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanvir Islam.
