Mehidy Hasan Miraz to Lead Bangladesh in ODI Series
Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Towhid Hridoy have been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies due to injuries. Shanto is recovering from a groin injury, while Hridoy is also struggling with groin problems. Both Shanto and Rahim were not included in the squad for the Test series either.
On Monday, December 2, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that Mehidy Hasan Miraz will captain the team in ODIs since Najmul Hossain Shanto is unavailable. The board also mentioned that Towhid Hridoy will be reassessed by the medical team in two weeks to check if he can play.
“All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will now lead the Bangladesh side in ODIs for the first time in the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto who is still recovering from a groin injury,” BCB said in a statement.
“Hridoy had complained of pain in his right groin region and subsequent investigations have confirmed the presence of a medical condition. He has been advised rest and we will reassess him in two weeks to determine his readiness to play,” added BCB Sports Physician Monzur Hossain Chowdhury.
Shakib Al Hasan has been excluded from the squad, having also missed the Afghanistan ODI series in November. Mustafizur Rahman will miss the series to be with his wife for the birth of their child.
Liton Das, Parvez Hossain Emon, Afif Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Sakib return to the squad, while Zakir Hasan is dropped. Nahid Rana keeps his place.
“Fellow left-hander Zakir Hasan, who was in the team in last month’s ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE, has been dropped,” BCB said in the statement.

The first match is on December 8, followed by the second and third ODIs on December 10 and 12. All matches will take place at the same venue.
