Fortune Barisal was one of the first teams in Bangladesh’s Premier League, recording the most significant victory by wickets in its first edition. It was in the 5th edition that this record was successfully broken by the team Sylhet Sixers, who chased their target in 12 balls faster than the previous team. For the inaugural BPL season, Barisal burners were the team’s original name, which was later renamed after fortune group decided to take the team under its wings starting from the 10th edition of BPL.
The Bangladesh premier league was first started in 2012, which is still considered a landmark of success and growth for the whole cricket association of the country. There are three formats of cricket from which you can choose one to play in various tournaments or matches at per convenience. However, after a lot of thought and dilemma, the twenty20 professional form was adopted as the only format of cricket in Bangladesh’s premier league.
Winner | Margin | Balls | Target | Overs | Opposition | Season |
Sylhet Sixers | 10 wickets | 53 | 68 | 11.1 | Chittagong Vikings | 2017 |
Barisal Burners | 10 wickets | 41 | 166 | 13.1 | Sylhet Royals | 2012 |
Chittagong Vikings | 10 wickets | 23 | 140 | 16.1 | Sylhet Super Stars | 2015 |
- Barisal Burners
Barisal burners were one of the first six teams to participate in the Bangladesh premier league’s inaugural season, which started in February 2012. However, due to financial difficulties, the Barisal burners team was dissolved and restricted from playing in Bangladesh’s premier league for the 2nd edition of it. But fortunately, the team was later reinstated in Bangladesh’s premier league after it was bought and rebranded as Bulls for the 4th edition of BPL.
Furthermore, in the first edition, the team hailing from Barisal could record 10 wickets win over Sylhet royals with 41 balls remaining for the innings comprehensively. It is the second fastest run chase by any team in Bangladesh’s premier league history from a long margin. Moreover, it was one of the first records made by any chasing run in that season of BPL.
- Chittagong Vikings
Chittagong Vikings are also one of the six members of the first edition of Bangladesh’s premier league in 2012. For the first two editions of BPL, Chittagong Vikings were called Chittagong kings due to a different ownership group. Just like Barisal burners, Chittagong Vikings were too banned from participating in BPL due to their breaching specific codes of conduct by the Bangladesh cricket association.
However, even after such conspiracies during the third season of BPL, Chittagong Vikings were able to record the second-largest margin in which a match had been won by wickets previously in the league. Chittagong Vikings were supposed to be chasing 140 runs against Sylhet superstars, which they did pretty convincingly with 23 more balls remaining in the innings.
- Sylhet Sixers
Lastly, Sylhet Sixers recorded the most significant victory in Bangladesh’s premier league by ten wickets and 53 balls remaining. The team Sylhet sixers was also a part of the six founding members who played in the inaugural season of Bangladesh’s premier league. However, at the start of the 10th edition, the team Sylhet sixers were renamed Sylhet Sunrisers due to a change in ownership. After such rapid changes, the people involved at the top were quite famous, as some of them hailed from a managerial background and were successful entrepreneurs looking for investment opportunities at large.
Winning games comfortably is more challenging than it seems from the seat of fans. That is why, when a team manages to win a big victory by keeping all wickets in their hand, it automatically becomes a record from a large margin. Moreover, such things are common in Bangladesh’s premier league due to the competitiveness of all the participating teams.
