Bangladesh suffers blow as pacer Ebadot Hossain ruled out of World Cup 2023 due to knee injury

Due to a knee injury, Bangladeshi bowler Ebadot Hossein will not play in the forthcoming World Cup in 2023. The great bowler will now miss a second major event after skipping the 2023 Asia Cup.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector, Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz on Wednesday that “He (Ebadot) will not be available for us in the World Cup.”

“It’s a big blow for us as he will require an operation for his knee. Following the operation he will certainly take some time for rehabilitation purposes, at least three to four months, so we cannot consider him for the World Cup,” he added.

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) damage was sustained by the great pacer during the ODI series against Afghanistan last month.

As previously reported, Ebadot is running out of time to get healthy for the World Cup and is already eliminated from the competition because the injury requires surgery.

Tanzim Sakib took over as the pacer for the Asia Cup in 2023, but it now appears difficult for BCB to replace him for the World Cup. There are several candidates to choose from, including Hasan Mahmud, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam, but it will be exceedingly difficult to fill Ebadot’s shoes.

He stands out from other bowlers due to his ability to bowl at middle overs with extreme speed and regulated length.

Shakib al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh’s ODI team, and head coach Chandika Hathurusingha appeared disappointed by the information. The bowler, who is 29 years old, has played for Bangladesh in 12 ODI games and has taken 22 wickets at an average of 5.6.

“It is very sad that Ebadot is not with us because he was an important part of our team, and taking that into consideration it is quite disappointing,” Shakib told reporters.

“Ebadot is one of our impact bowlers, the fastest bowler out of the five fast bowlers we played in the last few series. So, it’s a big loss, and to replace him straight away it’s a hard task,” added Hathurusingha.
