Top End T20 series: The Pakistan Shaheens are currently in Australia for the Top End T20 series, and the very first game of this year’s edition brought some serious drama. A huge mix-up between the openers not only broke a brilliant 100-run stand against Bangladesh A but also left one batter fuming.
A Flying Start for the Shaheens In the Top End T20 series
Cricket is a game of nerves, and run-outs are among the most frustrating ways to get dismissed. A batter has to watch for scoring chances, keep track of where the ball is going, and be aware of the field, all at the same time. Miss just one of those things, and trouble is never far away.
That’s exactly what happened in the Shaheens’ clash with Bangladesh A at Darwin’s TIO Stadium. Having won the toss and batted first, the Shaheens made a flying start. Openers Khawaja Nafay and Yasir Khan were in top form, both smashing quick half-centuries and taking the score past 100 without losing a wicket.

Then came the 12th over, bowled by Hasan Mahmud. Yasir Khan faced the first ball and got an inside edge onto his pads. Nafay, at the non-striker’s end, set off for what looked like a sharp single, but Yasir stayed rooted to the spot, not even trying to run.
The throw went to the non-striker’s end, and Nafay was caught short of his ground. That’s when things boiled over. Nafay, visibly upset, threw his bat to the ground and let his partner know exactly how he felt, screaming at him in frustration.

It was an unfortunate end to an excellent innings. Nafay had scored 61 off just 31 balls at a blistering strike rate of 196.77, while Yasir was also looking good with 62 off 40.
But the Shaheens didn’t let the mix-up derail their momentum. Abdul Samad came in at No. 3 and lit up the stadium with a 23-ball fifty, finishing unbeaten on 56 from 27 balls. Captain Irfan Khan chipped in with a whirlwind knock of his own, smashing a 12-ball half-century as Pakistan piled up a massive 228-run target for Bangladesh A.
Maybe the two openers will have a calm chat about the mix-up later, but for now, that fiery moment has stolen the headlines.
