South Africa has officially named their squad for the upcoming two-Test series against India, with captain Temba Bavuma making a much-anticipated comeback. Bavuma missed the recent Pakistan series due to a left calf strain but has now fully recovered and is ready to lead the Proteas once again. The team will face a tough challenge on Indian soil, but Bavuma’s return brings both leadership and stability.
Temba Bavuma to Warm Up with South Africa A
Before the main series, Bavuma will get some valuable game time with South Africa A, featuring in a four-day match against India A from October 30 to November 9. The game will be held at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence in Bengaluru, giving players a perfect chance to adjust to Indian conditions ahead of the Tests.

The Proteas squad remains largely the same as the one that toured Pakistan recently. Despite losing the first Test in Lahore, South Africa bounced back strongly with a commanding eight-wicket win in Rawalpindi, showing their fighting spirit.
Exciting Talents and Key Players to Watch
One of the most exciting names in the squad is young batter Dewald Brevis. Known for his explosive hitting in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he has represented both the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, Brevis now gets the chance to prove himself in the longer format. His inclusion shows South Africa’s commitment to developing dynamic, multi-format players.
Veteran spinner Simon Harmer is another key inclusion. The 36-year-old brings plenty of experience and knows Indian conditions well, having toured the country back in 2015. During that trip, he picked up 10 wickets in two Tests. Earlier this year, Harmer was outstanding in South Africa’s series-leveling win in Rawalpindi, taking eight wickets in the match and finishing the series with 14 wickets overall. His ability to control the game and outthink batters will be crucial against India’s strong batting lineup.
When and Where the Action Unfolds
The first Test begins on November 14 at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, one of cricket’s most celebrated venues. The second Test will be played from November 22 at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati, which will host a Test match for the very first time.
With Bavuma back as captain, South Africa will be eager to build on their recent momentum in red-ball cricket. Meanwhile, India will aim to maintain their dominance at home. All signs point to a thrilling series between two talented sides.
