Bayern Munich’s Record Winning Run Ends Despite Late Harry Kane Equalizer

4 Min Read

Bayern Munich broke their winning streak of 16 consecutive matches since the start of the season, as they were held to a thrilling 1-1 draw against Union Berlin in the Bundesliga. Harry Kane’s late equaliser ensured the German champions left with just one point and denied what looked to be a historic starting run of Bayern’s 2025 campaign.

Bayern Munich’s Historic Run Halted

Going into Saturday’s match, Bayern Munich had 16 wins in 16 matches in all competitions, the best-ever start to a season by any men’s team in Europe’s top five leagues.

A 17th straight victory would have matched their club record for most wins at the beginning of a Bundesliga season. But Union Berlin proved resilient opponents, defending deep and taking their chances when they came, and ending Bayern’s flawless streak.

Doekhi gives Union Berlin the lead

Bayern Munich were stunned midway through the first half when Danilho Doekhi fired Union Berlin into the lead. His shot, following a dangerous corner, slipped under Manuel Neuer the first time Bayern had either trailed or even conceded a first-half goal this term.

The goal seemed to have momentarily shaken Thomas Tuchel’s men, who found difficulty in finding their rhythm against a compact Union defence.

Diaz Responds with a Moment of Brilliance

Bayern Munich got their equalizer soon after through Diaz, who scored his third in two games. A precise pass down the flank by Josip Stanisic, which seemed to be rolling out of play, was alive with superb control by Diaz, who then spun past his marker and unleashed a powerful shot from a tight angle into the near post. That goal finally stirred the Allianz Arena into life and also revived Bayern’s confidence going into the second half.

Kane’s Mixed Afternoon Ends with Redemption

It was a very quiet afternoon for Harry Kane, who could not find space anywhere against Union’s backline. The England captain inadvertently contributed to Union’s second goal when he attempted to clear from a set piece and went straight to Doekhi, who made no mistake with his finish past Neuer.

However, Kane made amends deep into stoppage time as the striker rose highest to meet Tom Bischof’s pinpoint cross and powered home a header in the 93rd minute to level it at 1-1. It was his 13th Bundesliga goal of the season – a crucial strike that preserved Bayern’s unbeaten league record.

What’s Next for Bayern Munich

After the international break, Bayern Munich return to Bundesliga action when they host Freiburg on Saturday, 22 November (14:30 GMT), while Union Berlin go to Hamburg to take on St. Pauli on Sunday, 23 November (16:30 GMT). Despite the dropped points, Bayern are still strong favorites for the title and continue to show the depth and resilience that has defined their season so far.
