Steve Smith Leads Sixers to Dominant Victory

Smith returned to the Sixers after an impressive performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he scored two centuries, and carried his excellent form into the BBL. Opening the innings with James Vince’s replacement, he started off slowly but quickly got into his rhythm, dominating the Scorchers’ bowling attack.

Though the Sixers lost a few quick wickets, Smith formed a key partnership with captain Moises Henriques, helping to steady the innings. He reached fifty in 36 balls and then picked up the pace, bringing up his century in just 58 balls. In the final overs, he hit 21 runs from six balls, helping the Sixers set a record total.

Sixers Set Their Highest Team Score:

Smith’s outstanding 121, along with Henriques’ quick 46 off 28 balls and Ben Dwarshuis’ powerful 23* off seven balls, helped the Sixers reach a challenging total of 220/3. This broke their previous record of 213/4 against the Melbourne Stars in 2021.

A Tough Chase for the Scorchers:

The Perth Scorchers had a tough job ahead, needing to chase down 221. It required a strong effort from their batting lineup. Smith’s performance not only gave the Sixers a boost but also set a high bar for the rest of the BBL season.
